Family of veteran beaten by police 45 years ago honors his life

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- 2022 marked 45 years since the execution of Jose "Joe" Campos Torres astatine the hands of Houston constabulary officers.

Saturday, his household and friends gathered for a solidarity caravan and march that ended astatine a caller memorial plaza named successful his honor.

On May 5, 1977, Campos Torres, a 23-year-old Vietnam veteran, was taken into custody astatine a barroom for disorderly conduct.

Instead of being taken to jail, constabulary took Campos Torres to "The Hole," an isolated country down a warehouse on Buffalo Bayou. His assemblage was recovered washed up connected the banks of the bayou.
